Open for business

We had an April vacation filled with bird watching (and listening), bike riding, snake spotting (not catching - I just can't go there), Earth watching, worm racing, playground romping, Lego building, baseball playing, simple, unbridled fun. And most of our days were filled with a familiar perfume...sunscreen...let there be sun.

On the last day of vacation, a beautiful summer like day, the boys declared a pj day and spent more time in than out. I had finally mustered the courage to begin a project I've been pining over for some time - getting the boxes and boxes of baby clothes out of the basement.

With only a hint of melancholy, I sorted through the memories and created piles by size and type, including a can't bear to part with pile, which I gave the boys permission to sort through and use to dress their stuffies. This led to the boys creating stores, made out of cardboard boxes, in which they cataloged (including exact measurements) and priced each item. They created signs for their stores and quickly opened for business, each being the other's customer. Their sales pitches were awesome. Six tried to sell his clothes by addressing Four's needs - if he didn't need a sock for his stuffy, maybe his stuffies would like a sock puppet. Four, on the other hand gave many of his items away for free, because, he said to Six, you've just been so helpful. This was all very good stuff.
My intent was to send an email to the family network to sell the clothes by the bag full, but after witnessing the intense entrepreneurial spirit, I feel compelled to pull together a yard sale, hopefully an enormously successful one.

If you're wondering why one stuffy is wearing glasses, it's because two years ago Four's mouse hit Six's mouse in the eye and ever since then Six's mouse has required glasses. He visits an eye doctor. We hope his prescription will remain the same this year.
